Information that identifies a padmount

Pad-mounted units are enclosed for ground-level outdoor service. Buyers typically need the kVA rating, phase, primary and secondary voltages, frequency, impedance, fluid type and feed configuration.

Photograph the outside of the cabinet with doors closed, the interior only when the equipment is safely de-energized and accessible, and the complete nameplate. Note missing locks, damaged doors, corrosion, leaks or removed components.

Pickup and access considerations

Padmounts are dense assets that may require a forklift, crane or rigging plan. Tell us whether the unit is loose, palletized, installed, behind fencing or located on a restricted site. Include loading capability and any schedule constraints.

Radial-feed and loop-feed details

Feed configuration affects how a pad-mounted transformer fits a distribution system. If the nameplate or cabinet diagram identifies radial feed or loop feed, include that information. Photograph switch handles, bay arrangement and bushing wells only from a safe position with the equipment de-energized and under authorized access.

Also note whether the cabinet is tamper-resistant, whether doors and locking hardware function, and whether the unit includes fusing or switching accessories. Never operate switches or open a live compartment to improve an online listing.

New surplus versus used padmounts

An unused padmount may come from a cancelled project, specification change or excess utility inventory. State whether it was ever energized, where it has been stored and whether documentation and accessories remain with it. Outdoor storage can still affect paint, seals, cabinets and exposed components.

For used padmounts, operating history and removal reason help frame the review. A routine system upgrade presents a different fact pattern from a unit removed after a fault. Neither description guarantees acceptance, but accuracy improves the decision.

Photograph the cabinet as a complete system

A pad-mounted transformer inquiry should show more than the tank. Capture the enclosure from the front, back and both sides. Include the base, hinges, locking points, radiators, pressure or temperature gauges, switch locations and any loose accessories. When safe and authorized, a wide cabinet-interior view can help identify arrangement and completeness.

Never open energized equipment or move, drain or dismantle a transformer solely for an inquiry. Use qualified personnel and applicable site procedures.

Do you review both single-phase and three-phase padmounts?

Yes. Send the full electrical specifications because application and demand differ by configuration.

Can an installed pad-mounted transformer be reviewed?

Yes, but clearly state its operating and ownership status. De-energizing, disconnecting and removal must be handled by qualified parties under an agreed plan.

Does cabinet damage affect value?

Yes. Door alignment, corrosion, vandalism, leaks and missing hardware can affect reuse and handling decisions. Photograph defects directly.
