Power transformer sales start with engineering detail.

Large power transformers require more than a photo and rough weight. A useful review combines electrical data, service history, accessory condition and a realistic removal plan.

Build a complete equipment package

For larger transformers, provide the main nameplate, outline drawing when available, total and untanked weights, fluid volume, dimensions, bushing details, tap changer information and cooling equipment. State whether accessories are installed, crated or missing.

Include recent electrical tests, dissolved gas analysis, maintenance history and the reason for removal when available. Records do not guarantee a purchase, but they reduce uncertainty.

Removal scope must be defined

Clarify ownership, de-energization status, disconnection scope, oil status, foundation access, crane access, road restrictions and scheduling. Large-equipment logistics can determine whether an otherwise marketable transformer is practical to purchase.

Accessories can be commercially important

Large transformers may include bushings, cooling fans, pumps, radiators, control cabinets, gauges, arresters, conservator equipment and tap-changing components. An inventory should state which accessories remain installed, which are removed and crated, and which are missing or damaged.

Photograph accessory nameplates and connection points when safe. A complete package is easier to assess than a tank with unidentified parts stored elsewhere.

Service history and known events

State the last service date, reason for removal and any known fault, overload, alarm, repair or oil-processing history. Recent records may include turns-ratio, winding-resistance, insulation-resistance or oil-analysis results, but the relevance and interpretation depend on the unit and test conditions.

Do not describe a transformer as tested or operational unless the statement is supported by a dated report or documented operating history. A transparent unknown is more useful than an unsupported assurance.

Plan around dimensions, weight and access

A power transformer opportunity can be limited by transport height, road access, crane position, ground conditions and the need to remove accessories or fluid. Provide outline drawings, shipping dimensions and weights when available. Photos should show the route from the transformer to the loading area, not only the transformer itself.

Never open energized equipment or move, drain or dismantle a transformer solely for an inquiry. Use qualified personnel and applicable site procedures.

Can you evaluate a power transformer before it is removed from service?

Yes. State the operating status and planned outage timeline. Any inspection or removal must follow the site owner’s safety and authorization procedures.

Which records are most useful?

Nameplate data, outline drawings, factory test reports, recent electrical tests, dissolved gas analysis, maintenance records and known fault history are useful when available.

Do you handle dismantling?

Removal scope is discussed case by case after the equipment and site are reviewed. Do not assume rigging, disconnection or environmental services are included until documented.
