Identify the voltage class, current, and interrupting rating
Start with the main nameplate. Photograph it squarely and transcribe the manufacturer, catalog or model number, serial number, rated maximum voltage, continuous current, frequency, and short-circuit interrupting current. Do not infer one rating from another. Facility service alone does not identify voltage class, and ampere rating does not establish interrupting capability. The nameplate and manufacturer literature are the record.
Voltage class, continuous current, and interrupting rating describe different limits. Voltage identifies the insulation/application class; continuous current is normal carrying capacity; interrupting rating, often in kA, relates to fault current the breaker is rated to interrupt. Eaton lists combinations including 4.76–27 kV, 1,200–3,000 A, and 25–63 kA. Report exact values, not the nearest common size.

Record the mechanism, trip unit, and cradle arrangement
A vacuum breaker is more than its interrupter bottles. Identify the operating mechanism, spring charging arrangement, close and trip coils, auxiliary contacts, shutters or interlocks, charging motor, and control plug. Keep de-energization and authorization with the site’s qualified team
Do not open energized equipment, defeat an interlock, rack a breaker, remove covers, or reach into a cell for sales photos. The owner’s qualified electrical personnel must control work under site safety procedures. Plan the lot, removal path, and freight information
